Chipping Campden

Visit this medieval market town in the heart of the Cotswolds, which has graceful honey-colored architecture, scenic walks and famous festivals.

Chipping Campden is a popular spot in England’s enchanting Cotswold region. Dating back to the 7th century, the town became one of Europe’s most important medieval wool-trading towns. Today, visit this welcoming destination that has a cornucopia of architectural styles, showcases the talents of homegrown craftspeople and celebrates the arts at year-round festivals.

The town’s peaceful, meandering streets are ideal for exploring on foot. Start at St. James Church, a striking Gothic-style church crowned by a soaring tower. Browse art exhibits and watch artists at work at Court Barn Museum.

Stroll along the main street, characterized by varying stone houses built by wool merchants between the 1300s and 1600s. Grevel House, established in 1380, is the town’s oldest building. Admire the 17th-century Market Hall, built as a shelter for passing traders. The Town Hall was previously a court house, jail and wool exchange.

Several old buildings now double as shops of local businesses. Find everything from artisanal food to an independent shoemaker, jeweler and potter. Take a break at cozy teahouses and sample the hospitality of a traditional pub. The Eight Bells Inn has been welcoming guests since the 1300s.

Spot impressive stained-glass windows at St. Catherine’s Roman Catholic Church. See work by an artist cooperative at the Gallery at the Guild, housed in the Old Silk Mill. Relax amid colorful plants in Ernest Wilson Memorial Garden.

Discover the stunning natural landscapes of the Cotswold countryside via trails starting in the town center. Hike to Dover’s Hill and Broadway Tower for unrivaled views.

A great get away in the country.
"We had a wonderful time at Charingworth Manor. We stayed for 4 days. It was under renovation so there were a few things missing but staff was wonderful. It is located out of town but the Cotswolds are vast and a car is needed."
